Ebola Cases Confirmed in Congo and Uganda as Suspected Totals Fall

rte.ieThe World Health Organization reported 321 confirmed Ebola cases and 116 suspected cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday. The number of suspected cases dropped from more than 1,100 after investigations ruled out hundreds of them.
At least 48 people have died from the virus in Congo and six have recovered. WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said patients whose cases were ruled out had either other diseases or fever with no additional symptoms.
Ministry of Health confirmed six more cases, bringing the country’s total to 15. Officials are monitoring 668 contacts of confirmed cases. One person has died in Uganda and 12 remain hospitalized.
CEPI announced funding for Moderna, University of Oxford researchers, and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative to develop new Ebola vaccines. The organizations expect candidate vaccines to reach clinical trials within months. There are no approved treatments or vaccines for the Bundibugyo variant of Ebola currently circulating.
