Egypt defeated Australia 4-2 in a penalty shootout Friday after a 1-1 draw, advancing to the knockout round of the World Cup for the first time. Hossam Abdelmaguid scored the clinching penalty. Australia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan replaced starter Patrick Beach late in extra time and did not stop any of Egypt's four shots.
