Eight People Including Four Children Shot in Brooklyn Coney Island

At least eight people, including four children, were shot in Brooklyn's Coney Island on July 4, the New York Police Department said. The gunfire occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. at 2930 W. 30th St.

Near Surf Ave, close to the Coney Island boardwalk where a fireworks display had been scheduled for 9:45 p.m. All eight victims were taken to local hospitals. Seven victims are listed in stable condition.

A 21-year-old woman shot in the chest is in critical condition. The victims range in age from 6 to 37 and include a 33-year-old man shot in the chest, a 25-year-old woman and three boys ages 14, 12 and 7 shot in the legs or thigh, a 37-year-old man shot in the shoulder, and a 6-year-old boy shot in the stomach. Police officers recovered a book bag containing a gun under trees at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
