EU air routes grew 1 percent in 2025, IATA reports

The number of direct flight routes within the European Union rose by 154 in 2025, a 1 percent increase from the prior year. Over the 12-month period, 1,281 routes were added while 1,127 were cancelled. Of the new routes, 568 were relaunched services that had been paused for at least one year during the previous decade.

Route totals and growth rate The net increase brought the total number of routes to 14,797. This figure falls below the 1.5 percent compound annual growth rate recorded over the preceding ten years.
