European Firms Display Handheld Laser Designators and Small VTOL Drone at Paris Defense Exhibition
Lithuanian and Estonian companies are displaying miniaturized laser-targeting systems and a new small VTOL drone at the 2026 Eurosatory exhibition in Paris.
naturalnews.comSeveral European companies are promoting laser solutions for unmanned aerial vehicles at the 2026 Eurosatory exhibition in Paris. Lithuania’s Aktyvus Photonics announced it is tripling production of its ultra-compact UAV laser-designation systems this year. The company is using its 2025 profits to expand operations.
Aktyvus Photonics has developed a UAV laser-designation system that fits in a hand and weighs 200 grams. Company representatives said the lighter systems address a technology gap for Ukraine’s defense, where front-line units rely on small drones and existing laser systems that guide missiles are predominantly heavy and expensive.
” Šatas also said the company’s technology is present in Ukraine, where battlefield conditions have tested and validated the systems.
Estonian company Threod Systems is unveiling its Eos D ISTAR, a new-generation small vertical take-off and landing drone, at the same exhibition. The system combines a lightweight aircraft with a high-capability sensor package to bring laser designation and reconnaissance into a lightweight unmanned aircraft system.
” He said the company’s focus has been to bring that capability into a smaller VTOL UAS that tactical units can deploy and operate more easily.
Threod Systems has used feedback from operators in Ukraine, where it runs a training center, to enhance software algorithms and operating procedures. The company’s combat experience has facilitated exports to 27 countries, including 14 NATO member states, according to data from Threod Systems.
