Former President Yoon Suk Yeol was questioned for about six hours on June 6, 2026, at the special counsel's office in Gwacheon on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of rights. The session focused on messages Yoon allegedly directed the foreign ministry and the National Security Office to send to allies, including the United States, after he declared martial law on December 3, 2024.

The messages portrayed the declaration as legitimate and necessary to safeguard democracy and counter pro-North Korean forces.

M. It was his first appearance before the special counsel team since the office opened on February 25, 2026. According to the special counsel team, the National Security Office delivered Yoon's message to the National Intelligence Service the day after the martial law declaration.

The message was translated into English and briefed to a CIA official. Investigators examined Yoon's intention behind the messages and the circumstances of their transmission. The special counsel team has not released further details from the June 6 session.
