A Boeing 777 flew no more than 25 feet above the ground during a low pass over Central Texas while approaching the Horseshoe Bay Resort Jet Center airport on Wednesday, according to data from FlightRadar24. Pilots radioed air traffic control before the maneuver, stating, "We are turning final runway 17 for a low approach, 5DN heavy," per audio from LiveATC.net. CBS News reported the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it is investigating the low-pass maneuver. The aircraft is owned by Jetran, a company based in Horseshoe Bay. " Jetran said it expects authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Qatar Airways confirmed on Saturday that the aircraft belongs to a leasing company and that the flight was not operated by the airline or its personnel. Former NTSB Chair Robert Sumwalt told CBS News the pilots could face suspension of their credentials.
