The FBI is examining more than $260 million moved through U.S. banks by the Argentine Football Association. The probe also covers an additional $57 million in transfers whose purpose remains unclear.
CBS SportsThe FBI is investigating the Argentine Football Association for alleged money laundering and fraud involving funds moved through U.S. banks. The inquiry focuses on activities in Miami and at least $260 million that passed through the American financial system, according to Argentine newspaper La Nacion. An additional $57 million in transfers without a documented purpose is also under review.
Banking documents obtained by La Nacion show hundreds of millions of dollars moved through Citibank, Synovus, Bank of America, JP Morgan, and PNC Bank. Only a portion of those funds can be traced to operating expenses. Investigators are examining the relationship between the association and TourProdEnter LLC, a company that handles overseas commercial agreements with sponsors.
The company is owned by a producer and is under scrutiny by at least three federal prosecutors.
Sponsor payments previously went directly to the association and were distributed through youth soccer clubs. After the 2022 World Cup, the association entered an agreement with TourProdEnter. The association opened a South Florida office ahead of the 2023 Copa America and later established two training facilities in the region.
The investigation began in 2025 and expanded in 2026 after an alert from Argentina's Ministry of Security. It remains in preliminary stages, and no one has been charged. The probe is not expected to affect the association's participation in the current World Cup.
