Five-Star Recruit Brandon McCoy Jr. Stays With Michigan Wolverines
ESPN reported that Brandon McCoy Jr. will remain at Michigan after committing in April. The decision follows head coach Dusty May's departure to the Dallas Mavericks last month. Several other players have also announced they will stay.

Five-star recruit Brandon McCoy Jr. will stay with the Michigan Wolverines, ESPN reported. The 6-foot-4 guard from Sierra Canyon High School in California ranked No. 18 in the final SC Next 100 for the class of 2026 and was a McDonald's All-American.
May left Michigan last month to take over the Dallas Mavericks after leading the team to the national championship less than three months earlier. He compiled a 64-13 overall record and 33-7 mark in Big Ten play during two seasons as head coach.
Athletic director Warde Manuel announced the departure and stated that assistant coach Mike Boynton had been appointed head coach in an interim capacity. Projected starting guard Trey McKenney announced his intention to stay hours after the coaching change. Final Four Most Outstanding Player Elliot Cadeau followed days later.
Incoming transfers Moustapha Thiam from Cincinnati and JP Estrella from Tennessee decided to stay earlier this week. Michigan's 2026 recruiting class includes six recruits, three of whom are SC Next 100 prospects besides McCoy. Quinn Costello is among those prospects.
All three are expected to keep their commitments to the Wolverines.
