Florida filed a lawsuit against TikTok on Monday, alleging the company violated a state law that bars children under 14 from creating social media accounts. The complaint states that TikTok still permits 13-year-olds in Florida to use the platform and is actively deceiving parents about its safety practices.
Allegations in the complaint State officials said the platform exposes children to harmful sexual content and features designed to encourage extended use, including unlimited scrolling and push notifications. Evidence cited in the filing indicates many children spend six, seven, or eight hours or more on the app each day.
“It’s designed to keep kids stuck on those screens for hours.”
