The story centers on the Dashwood family after Henry Dashwood’s death leaves his wife and three daughters with an inheritance of £500 a year. Much of the estate passes to a son from his first marriage. Edgar-Jones’ character draws the attention of Edward Ferrars, played by George MacKay.
Creed-Miles’ character encounters both the roguish John Willoughby, played by Frank Dillane, and the gentlemanly Colonel Brandon, played by Herbert Nordrum. Fiona Shaw appears in a supporting role as Mrs. Jennings.
Oakley directed the film from a screenplay by Diana Reid. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films produce alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett. The project marks another collaboration between Focus Features and Working Title after their earlier Austen adaptations Pride & Prejudice in 2005 and Emma in 2020.
