Ford and Lombardo Win Major Party Nominations for Nevada Governor, Setting Up Competitive November Rematch

Aaron Ford won the Democratic nomination for Nevada governor on June 9, 2026, defeating Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill. Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo won his party's nomination the same day. Ford will face Lombardo in the November general election in one of the country's most competitive gubernatorial races.

Ford had the backing of the Democratic congressional delegation and former Vice President Kamala Harris. He spoke at his victory party in Las Vegas that evening. "This is all about strengthening the working class," he said.

Lombardo appeared at a polling location in Las Vegas earlier that day. "We're running again because we still got a lot of work to do in that space," he said, as volunteers gathered under a canopy in 94-degree heat. Nevada held primaries for several other key offices on June 9.

In the Republican primary for the 3rd Congressional District, composer Marty O'Donnell, known for writing the soundtrack to the video game Halo, won the nomination to face Democratic Rep. Susie Lee in November. O'Donnell defeated Jeff Gunter, Aury Nagy, and Tera Anderson.

The Republican primary for the 2nd Congressional District, to replace retiring Rep. Mark Amodei, remained too early to call. Trump endorsed David Flippo, while former state Sen. James Settelmeyer had the backing of Amodei and Lombardo.

Registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by 70,000 in the district. Teresa Benitez-Thompson, Ford's chief of staff and a former majority floor leader, won the Democratic nomination for the 2nd Congressional District. In the race for attorney general, Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro won the Democratic nomination, defeating Treasurer Zach Conine.

Trump-backed attorney Adriana Guzmán Fralick won the Republican nomination over Douglas County Commissioner Danny Tarkanian. Democratic incumbent Cisco Aguilar won the nomination for secretary of state. Nevada operates a closed primary system.
