Former Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after departing the Department of Justice in early April. She underwent surgery a few weeks ago and is now recovering, according to multiple reports. Bondi, 60, told CBS News she is undergoing treatment. A source told Axios she has been recovering after the procedure.

Axios reported the health update while disclosing that President Donald Trump appointed Bondi to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The council focuses on artificial intelligence policy. The White House confirmed to Fox News Digital that Bondi will serve on the council.

Vice President JD Vance said in a statement that Bondi has been an enormously valuable asset and will remain involved in confronting important issues. The council is co-chaired by White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks and White House science advisor Michael Kratsios.

Bondi will reportedly help coordinate between the federal government and technology executives on the panel.

News of the diagnosis and appointment comes weeks after President Trump removed Bondi as attorney general. In a Truth Social post, Trump described her as a Great American Patriot and loyal friend. Trump wrote that Bondi oversaw a massive crackdown on crime with murders falling to their lowest level since 1900.

He said she would transition to a new private-sector role. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has served as acting attorney general since Bondi’s departure. Bondi posted on X that she remains eternally grateful for the trust President Trump placed in her.

She said she would work to transition the office to Blanche before moving to the private sector.
