Samuel Silverman was arrested May 5 on felony charges tied to an alleged plot with a Fresno State player to manipulate game statistics for profit. The NCAA has already declared the player and a teammate permanently ineligible.
nbcnews.comcom reported. Silverman has pleaded not guilty through his attorney. Investigators allege Silverman plotted with Fresno State guard Mykell Robinson to intentionally limit his performance during the Bulldogs’ January 7, 2025 matchup against Colorado State.
Silverman’s alleged role involved moving money to facilitate prop bets on Robinson while associates profited from the guard’s reduced statistics. The operation also included Robinson’s former teammate Steven Vasquez and former DraftKings sports trader Matthew Martin, according to investigators.
Suspicious betting activity was flagged at BetMGM before tipoff, including multiple parlays on the Under for various Robinson player props that paid out $2,200 at +625 odds.
Investigators allege those wagers were placed by Martin, who has not been criminally charged. Robinson finished with three points, two rebounds, zero assists and zero three-pointers in 21 minutes as Fresno State lost 91-64. The bets paid out nearly $16,000 in profits.
Martin allegedly kept the winnings before sending cash to Silverman, who investigators say distributed shares to the others. Robinson wrote in text messages to Vasquez before the game that he would play only the first half and implied low production. The NCAA ruled Robinson and Vasquez permanently ineligible in September 2025 after determining they violated sports wagering rules.
DraftKings confirmed that neither Silverman nor Martin set college basketball betting lines during their employment in 2025. A company spokesperson stated the alleged activity did not occur on its platform and that an internal review found no evidence company information was misused or customers were impacted.
Nevada regulators said the investigation remains ongoing, with additional criminal charges against other suspects still under consideration.
