An ICE agent fatally shot a motorist in Houston on Tuesday while attempting to stop the man's vehicle during a targeted enforcement operation. The man was identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, whom ICE described as a Mexican national and illegal alien.
According to the agency, Araujo rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an officer.
An ICE officer fired his weapon in self-defense, striking the driver. The driver was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. Ronaldo Salgado, who identified himself as the son of the man killed, said his father was seeking workers for hire in the area when the shooting occurred.
Reuters could not immediately verify Araujo's immigration status or the circumstances of the shooting. Neither the FBI nor the Department of Homeland Security responded to requests for comment.
