Formula E Adds Three New Tracks and Sprint Format for December Season Start

The FIA released the 2026-2027 Formula E schedule on June 23. It adds three permanent circuits and introduces a 30-minute sprint race before each main event. The new venues are the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Brands Hatch in Kent, and Zandvoort near Amsterdam. The schedule gives the series two U.S. race weekends for the first time since 2014.

Double-header weekends will now feature an "Unleashed" sprint race lasting 30 minutes. The sprint has no mandatory pit stop, allowing drivers to run the new Gen4 cars at full speed. The main race follows the sprint on the same weekend. Gen4 cars measure 5540 by 1790 millimeters and can reach 208 mph with a 600 kW attack mode.

The FIA stated the schedule moves away from street circuits toward tracks that can handle higher speeds. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said the Gen4 cars place the series close to Formula 1 performance levels.
