Forward named finalist for league rookie award after first-season scoring run
A forward reached 22 points in her debut season and was named a finalist for Rookie of the Year. The team missed the playoffs, leaving the player focused on individual improvement ahead of next season.
New York PostA forward finished the season with 22 points, seven goals and 15 assists, leading all rookies in scoring. She placed second on her team in total points behind one teammate. The player had been without a goal through late December. During a game in Dallas she scored three times in one day, including the first goal of her professional career.
Coaching and early adjustment Coaches had asked the forward to keep the puck longer and create scoring chances for herself. A teammate also urged her to shoot more often. After the hat trick the forward said her trust in the coaching staff increased and her confidence rose.
Playoff miss and future plans The team remained in playoff contention until the second-to-last game. The forward said missing the postseason made it difficult to view her individual numbers as a full success. She received a qualifying offer from the team and was protected during the league’s expansion process in early June.
The forward plans to work on finishing chances and breakaways during the offseason.
