A Fox News poll conducted May 15-18 found President Trump's net approval rating among rural voters at -14, down 34 points from +20 in early 2025. The same survey showed his net approval among rural white voters at -6, down 33 points from +27 over the same period.

The poll of 1,002 registered voters was conducted jointly by Beacon Research and Shaw & Company Research using landline, cellphone, and text-to-web interviews, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Among rural voters the figures were 30 percent approve and 70 percent disapprove. The American Farm Bureau Federation reported farm bankruptcies rose 46 percent in 2025. Farmers cited higher fertilizer and diesel prices linked to the Iran conflict and reduced Chinese demand for U.S. soybeans.

Louisiana farmer Willis Nelson told MS Now his family had cut fertilizer use because margins no longer supported normal operations. Ohio farmer Fred Yoder said daily operating costs for two tractors reached about $1,500 and that potash prices had risen from $90 to $670-$700 per ton.

House spokesman Kush Desai described the poll numbers as a short-term snapshot and said the economy remained resilient. Spokesman Davis Ingle pointed to the 2024 election results as a stronger indicator of support. Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who worked on the survey, said affordability concerns were driving the erosion even among some non-MAGA Republicans.
