Sweden's goalkeeper faced repeated shots during the contest. Swedish coach Graham Potter said after the match that he had not seen a better team than France due to the quality across the pitch and the strength of the bench options.

Mbappé, 27, led the French attack.

He was joined by Ousmane Dembélé, who scored a hat trick against Norway earlier in the tournament, and Michael Olise, who leads the tournament in assists. Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres said it was difficult to maintain defensive pressure for the full 90 minutes against France's movement and connections.

France will face Paraguay in the round of 16 on Saturday.

French coach Didier Deschamps said the team would receive rest before preparing for the match and noted Paraguay's aggressive style. Deschamps said the team began the Sweden match timidly in the first 15 minutes and could have been more efficient in the first half.
