In June 2025 the government expanded prescribing authority to all physicians rather than limiting it to specialists.
According to the 2024 National Epidemiological Survey on Overweight and Obesity, about 18 percent of the French population, or roughly 10 million people, are obese. European Parliament data show that 51 percent of the EU population aged 16 and older are overweight and 17 percent are obese. As of late January, more than 70,000 patients in France were already being treated with Mounjaro.
