Frank Vogel Joins Warriors as Associate Head Coach

Longtime NBA coach Frank Vogel has agreed to become the associate head coach of the Warriors. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported the agreement on July 12, 2026. Marc Stein had earlier reported that Vogel was poised to join Steve Kerr’s staff.

Vogel began his career as an assistant with Boston from 2001-04, Philadelphia from 2004-05 and Indiana from 2007-11 before serving as head coach of the Pacers from 2011-16. He also had a stint as head coach of Orlando from 2016-18 before he was hired by the Lakers as their head coach from 2019-22.

Vogel won a championship with Los Angeles during the 2020 season. Vogel was also the Suns’ head coach for one season in 2023/24. He then became a coaching consultant with the Mavericks under Jason Kidd before joining Kidd’s staff as an assistant. Vogel was not retained after Kidd was replaced by former Michigan coach Dusty May this offseason.

Kerr needed help at the front of the bench after both Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse departed after last season.

“Vogel teaches defense. So this is good for GS.”

The Warriors are expected to continue evaluating roster options ahead of the regular season.
