G7 leaders adopted a joint statement committing to increased deliveries of air defence systems, additional interceptors, and long-range capabilities for Ukraine. The statement said Europe is Ukraine's main source of support, with recent estimates allocating around €200 billion in military and financial aid since 2022. An additional €90 billion loan is scheduled to begin flowing this month.
G7 leaders said they are ready to consider expanding licensing for military production to Ukraine. The statement also said they commit to increasing pressure on Russia's war economy through strengthened sanctions, including on the oil and gas sectors.
The leaders gathered in Évian-les-Bains, France, for two days before endorsing the statement on Tuesday night. The text expressed unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
On Tuesday, officials said Washington would soon be in a position to reimpose sanctions on Russian energy exports previously waived. A framework agreement between the United States and Iran is expected to reopen vessel flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
The EU has already passed 21 sanction packages against Russia, with the most recent one targeting Moscow's oil sales and shadow fleet. The G7 statement stressed energy resilience and pledged support to help Ukraine through next winter.
