NewsweekFrance opened the 2026 G7 summit on June 15 with eight additional countries seated at the table. The gathering runs through June 17 at Évian-les-Bains and adds India, Brazil, South Korea, Kenya, Egypt, Qatar, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates to the standard roster of G7 members and the European Union.
The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and African Development Bank are also attending. French organizers listed the agenda as geopolitical challenges, Ukraine, the Middle East, international partnerships, balanced economic growth, artificial intelligence, critical minerals and global macroeconomic imbalances.
France convened a June 11 video call that included representatives from China, India, Brazil, South Korea and Kenya in addition to G7 members. The move broadens the range of voices present for discussions on energy markets, trade routes and regional stability.
Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt joined sessions focused on the Middle East. Those three countries were cited for their roles in liquefied natural gas exports, crude oil production and the Suez Canal, respectively.
One estimate presented at the summit placed the G7 share of global GDP at 28.4 percent in purchasing-power terms, 9.6 percent of world population and 49.3 percent of global military spending. Kenya was noted for projected 2026 real GDP growth of 4.5 percent and a population of roughly 54.3 million.
The summit dates were adjusted from an original plan to begin June 14. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the final schedule followed consultations with partners.
