Gary Anderson Defeats Ryan Joyce 10-2 at World Matchplay in Blackpool

Gary Anderson defeated Ryan Joyce 10-2 in a first-round match at the World Matchplay on Monday at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The Scottish 12th seed averaged 109.96, produced finishes of 144 and 141, and won the final five legs. Anderson said the trebles, doubles and checkouts were all landing.

He added that Joyce had come up against one of those days when a player can throw with eyes shut and hit everything. Jonny Clayton advanced with a 10-7 win over Damon Heta that included a 144 finish. The Welsh fifth seed called Anderson his hero ahead of their second-round matchup.

Michael van Gerwen beat Andrew Gilding 10-6. The three-time champion will next face Dirk van Duijvenbode, who defeated Chris Dobey 13-11. Gian van Veen beat Krzysztof Ratajski 10-6 and will play Wessel Nijman after the 14th seed eliminated Dave Chisnall 10-5.

James Wade defeated Jermaine Wattimena 10-7 and will meet Ryan Searle, who beat William O'Connor 10-6.
