Giants Work Out Veterans Including Odell Beckham Jr. Amid Receiver Injuries
The New York Giants held a tryout for the 33-year-old wide receiver days after losing Gunner Olszewski to an Achilles injury. Beckham previously worked out for the team in April.
nypost.comThe New York Giants worked out Odell Beckham Jr. for a second time this offseason, sources told ESPN. The team is also evaluating veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster, Braxton Berrios and Anthony Miller during the same session.
The workout occurred days after wide receiver and kick returner Gunner Olszewski tore his Achilles during an Organized Team Activities practice. Wide receivers Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton remain sidelined while rehabbing a knee injury and a core muscle injury, respectively. Beckham, 33, previously worked out for the Giants in April.
He has stayed in contact with coach John Harbaugh, who coached him during the 2023 season in Baltimore. "Talked to Odell a lot, probably three or four times in the last week, [see] where he's at, where we're at," Harbaugh said last month. Harbaugh added that the April workout "went well" but said the team would let the situation develop through the rest of the spring and into training camp.
The Giants are completing their final four voluntary OTAs this week and will hold mandatory minicamp next Monday through Wednesday before the summer break. Beckham was in town this weekend for the Brian Burns Celebrity Softball Game, where he spoke with quarterback Jaxson Dart and Nabers. A source told ESPN that Beckham was optimistic about a potential return.
Beckham told The New York Post there was some "unfinished" business. Beckham was drafted by the Giants with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. He posted nine catches for 55 yards in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins after sitting out the previous season.
Harbaugh said last month the team was having "an honest conversation" about whether a reunion would work. "Odell wants to be the kind of player that can make a difference," Harbaugh said.
