Google Adds Reddit and Social Media Perspectives to AI Search Results

Google is rolling out changes to its AI Mode and AI Overviews that surface firsthand perspectives from social media, Reddit and web forums. The updates add context such as creator names and community labels, present sources as “Expert Advice,” and include more links plus related-topic suggestions. The Verge reported the changes on May 6, 2026.

Google is updating its AI Search features to incorporate perspectives from firsthand sources such as social media, Reddit and other web forums. The company is introducing a preview of these perspectives in AI Mode and AI Overviews, linking search queries with online conversations around similar topics.

Google says people are increasingly seeking out advice from others when searching for information online.

The Verge reported the developments. These firsthand sources are presented as “Expert Advice” in AI-powered Search results. Google is adding additional context to the new AI response links, such as the creator’s name, handle, or community name.

The changes aim to make conversational sources easier to identify quickly. “For example, if you’re researching how to take great pictures of the northern lights, you might see quotes from a photography forum advising on exposure time, along with clickable links – featuring the specific community name – so you can jump to the full conversation,” Google said in its announcement.

Google is also adding more links to useful websites beside the relevant text in AI responses.

These links are intended to be related to the user’s query but not necessarily provide the direct answer, such as directing users to blogs about touring guides and training suggestions when searching for information about cycling routes. Another update adds suggestions for related topics to the end of AI responses.

For example, users searching for how cities are expanding green spaces may now see recommended reports and case studies on successful efforts in major cities alongside the results summary.

Google is highlighting links from users' news subscriptions in AI Mode and AI Overviews for publishers that support linking a subscription. The feature is intended to make trusted sources stand out. The updates seek to encourage more users to engage with Google’s AI tools rather than manually adding terms such as “Reddit” to traditional search queries.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman claimed last year that just about anybody using Google at this point will end up on Reddit. The Verge reported on the announcement by Jess Weatherbed, published May 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM UTC.
