Code analysis shows Google is preparing a generative-AI video-editing tool in Google Photos that will use the Gemini Omni model to transform existing clips.
androidheadlines.comCom reported. A hidden Soba icon appears in the Create tab of the Android app. The icon shows a YouTube-style video play button overlaid with Google’s Gemini sparkle logo.
Internal test strings indicate that when the Soba code is active, the existing Remix button is renamed to Photo Remix. The supporting feature code for Soba is not yet present in the app. Google is staging UI assets for Soba ahead of a server-side rollout.
The feature is expected to use Google’s Gemini Omni multimodal video-generation model, which offers conversational editing and multimodal context for video input. Photo Remix launched in July 2025 with four available presets. Five months later the number of presets expanded to 13.
That feature uses the Nano Banana model to edit photos. Soba will differ from Google’s current Photo to video offering, which converts still images into video clips. A video remix will instead modify existing video clips.
Forbes contributor Paul Monckton wrote that Google is likely to launch Soba with a limited set of presets rather than full conversational editing, following the same cautious rollout pattern used for Photo Remix.
