WiredGoogle has launched the Fitbit Air, a screenless fitness tracker priced at $99.99 that will become available on May 26. The device marks the company's first new Fitbit release in four years. It can be used on iOS or Android phones without any paid subscription for basic tracking of activities, sleep, heart rate and breathing rate.
For a monthly fee of $9.99, users gain access to Gemini AI-powered features aimed at improving workouts and recovery. All units ship with a textile and polyurethane band into which the sensor-filled puck is placed. Preorder incentives vary by retailer.
Amazon, Best Buy and the Google Store are each including either a free second band or $35 in store credit with preorders placed before the May 26 release date. Amazon is selling the device in berry, blue or black color options paired with a silicone band for $99.99, down from a listed price of $134.99.
Best Buy automatically adds a small black silicone band when the Fitbit Air is added to the cart. The Google Store provides $35 in credit once the preorder ships, allowing buyers to select their preferred band. The fog-colored version is not available on Amazon but can be obtained through other retailers.
The Fitbit Air is powered by Gemini and designed around simplicity. It is positioned as a compelling alternative in the screenless fitness tracker category. The puck-style sensor is the central component, fitting into different band materials depending on user preference. Preorder promotions are intended to let buyers test multiple band styles at no extra upfront cost.
Basic functionality requires no subscription.
The optional paid tier unlocks advanced AI coaching for workout adjustments and recovery insights. The company is also preparing a new Google Health app for both iOS and Android that will deliver personalized health metrics when paired with the tracker. A full review of the Fitbit Air is expected in the coming weeks.
