Chuck Andary of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority stated that Canada and the United States have agreed to delay the opening. “As we work towards an opening date, we are taking a collaborative approach, reflecting our shared ambition for this trade corridor,” Andary said. The bridge is a $4 billion project.
Construction has been underway since 2018. It is named after Gordie Howe, who spent 25 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. The structure has a half-mile span over the Detroit River and is the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America.
