Existing endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics will add physiotherapy, dietetics and psychology services for menopause and perimenopause. The $40 million rollout begins next month across all states and territories.
rte.ieFrom July 1, dedicated menopause and perimenopause services will expand into all 33 existing endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics nationwide. The federal government is allocating $40 million to add physiotherapy, dietetics and psychology support at each site.
Menopause is defined as 12 consecutive months without menstrual periods for non-medical reasons. Perimenopause covers the preceding years when hormonal shifts begin. Symptoms can include hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, brain fog, joint pain and mood changes.
Expanded services Each state and territory already hosts at least one endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic. The new funding broadens care at these locations to address menopause-related needs alongside existing pelvic health services. Health department data indicate roughly half of women experience mild to moderate symptoms and one-quarter report symptoms that interfere with daily activities.
Officials said the clinics aim to improve access for women who previously felt dismissed or unsure where to seek help. A 48-year-old woman receiving care through state family planning services described the treatment as life-changing after being prescribed progesterone for night sweats and brain fog.
She said inadequate sleep had affected her work and family interactions before the intervention.
Workforce and economic context Federal health officials noted evidence that menopause symptoms contribute to workforce exits. The expanded clinics are presented as an investment in both individual wellbeing and economic productivity. The rollout will maintain existing clinic locations while integrating the additional allied-health services from the July 1 start date.
