Greek Oil Tankers Hit in Strait of Hormuz
Two Greek-owned tankers were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, with one abandoned after fire broke out. US forces carried out a ninth day of strikes on Iranian targets while mediators proposed a 10-day ceasefire. Casualties have risen on both sides since fighting resumed.

Two Greek-owned oil tankers were struck by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz. One vessel, the Maltese-flagged Kavomaleas owned by Greece’s Dynacom Tankers, caught fire and was abandoned by its crew before a tugboat rescued them. UKMTO reported the fire north of Khumsar, Oman.
The Kavomaleas had been stranded in the Arabian Gulf for months offshore of Saudi Arabia and appeared to exit the strait on July 2 with its AIS tracking turned off. US Central Command conducted its ninth consecutive evening of airstrikes on Iranian military command centres, air defence sites, coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks.
Explosions were reported in Tabriz, Jask, Sirik, Khormoj, Delijan, Arak, and Konarak.
Iran launched missiles from Lorestan province toward enemy targets. Blasts occurred at US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, with additional explosions reported in Ras Al-Khaimah, UAE. Iranian authorities stated at least 50 people were killed and more than 500 injured in Iran over the last three weeks.
State media reported eight killed in a single bridge strike on Friday. US airstrikes hit an area in Shiraz with no casualties reported. Iran’s nuclear agency condemned a US attack on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant construction site.
Iranian attacks killed US soldiers at a base in Jordan. Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, died in those attacks on Friday. A third US servicemember was killed in northern Iraq on Sunday during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian attack drone.
