President Trump said Monday he will meet newly sworn-in British Prime Minister Andy Burnham following a phone call the two leaders held earlier that day. Trump posted on Truth Social that the conversation covered multiple subjects, including the U.S.-U.K. relationship, North Sea oil production, trade, military cooperation, and efforts to demine the Strait of Hormuz.
"I had a very good conversation with the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham," Trump wrote. "We discussed many subjects, including the outstanding relationship we have had with the UK. Burnham was sworn in as prime minister earlier Monday after meeting with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, where the king accepted the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer and asked Burnham to form a new government.
Trump said the two leaders also discussed other issues during the call and that the U.S. would assist the United Kingdom where needed.
