A new round of negotiations between Hamas and other Palestinian factions concluded on Saturday after starting the previous day, Haaretz reported. Egypt mediated the discussions. Board of Peace High Representative Nickolay Mladenov joined representatives from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
The two central issues remain Hamas's obligation to pay Gaza civil servants and the group's disarmament. Palestinian sources said the payments question appears solvable while no path forward exists on disarmament as long as Israel maintains a presence in Gaza.
