Fox NewsA Harvard astronomer chosen last month by the White House will lead a scientific advisory council on unidentified anomalous phenomena, also called UAPs. The council has asked the Pentagon and other agencies for more than 50 videos, images and documents related to known UAP incidents.
The astronomer said an official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence visited his home in early June and asked him to form the group. The council will review already-declassified materials and report its findings to the UAP Governing Board, a body under the direction of ODNI.
Council requests additional materials The astronomer told Fox News Digital that the requested materials have not yet been provided, with agencies citing national security concerns over sensors used to capture the data. He said the main obstacle is that the government does not want to reveal sensor capabilities to other nations.
The council's goal is to determine whether the objects originate from other nations or are not human-made. The astronomer said that if the objects are not human-made, the discovery would be the largest ever made by science.
disclosures The astronomer is reviewing four batches of public UAP disclosures released by the Trump administration in recent months. In February, President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon and other agencies to declassify files related to UAPs. The Department of War released the fourth batch of UAP materials to the public on Friday.
The astronomer noted that one set of photos from the 1969 Apollo 12 mission, initially described as showing five unidentified phenomena, has been officially attributed to cosmic rays. The astronomer said the council will also recommend improved sensors to help the government identify UAPs with greater confidence in the future.
