Iran's Supreme Leader Vows Revenge for Father's Killing

Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei called for revenge against the United States for the killing of his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a written statement released on Saturday. The new supreme leader said vengeance was the will of the nation and must be carried out, adding that those responsible would never die peacefully in their beds.

It was his first public message since funeral ceremonies for his father began this week.

U.S. forces struck around 90 targets in Iran after attacks on three commercial tankers. Iran's Health Ministry reported 17 people killed and 115 injured. Iran struck U.S. allies in the Gulf in response.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is in Oman for talks. U.S. officials have demanded that Iran publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz open and pledge to halt attacks on commercial ships. Iran told American officials the tanker attacks were a mistake carried out by a rogue internal group.
