Harvard MBA Graduate Secures Google Product Manager Role Six Months After Graduation
An international student who finished Harvard Business School in 2024 without a full-time offer used a post-graduation internship and networking to obtain a product manager position at Google. The role began in November 2024 within the YouTube division.
An international student who graduated from Harvard Business School in May 2024 without a full-time job offer began a product manager role at Google six months later. The graduate had 90 days after commencement to secure employment or leave the United States. A three-month product management internship at a private equity firm extended the work-authorization window and added U.S. experience.
Initial applications produced mostly automated rejections.
The graduate then identified hiring managers on LinkedIn and sent roughly 100 direct messages; about eight recipients replied and one message produced an interview. That outreach led to a three-month product manager internship at Apple beginning in May 2023. After the internship, the team reported no available full-time headcount.
A Harvard classmate forwarded an internal referral for a product manager opening in Google’s YouTube division. Five interview rounds followed, and the candidate started the position in November 2024. The graduate now manages products that reach millions of users and has built an online audience exceeding 750,000 followers across Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
“My job at Google is a dream role for me, and I’m able to work on products that impact millions of people.”
