Heavy rains dropped nearly 200 millimeters across the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province between midnight and 10 a.m. on July 18, flooding homes and roads while damaging property in 540 cases, Yonhap reported. Rainfall totals reached 192.5 millimeters in Paju, 189.5 millimeters in Dongducheon, 179 millimeters in Pocheon, 166.5 millimeters in Gimpo and 159.5 millimeters in Cheorwon.
Officials recorded 148 cases of flooded homes and roads along with 392 cases of fallen trees and other debris. Authorities evacuated 95 people from 44 households in six cities as a precaution, and no human casualties were reported. Heavy rain alerts remained active for 10 regions in Gangwon Province, and a mudslide warning was in effect for Pocheon.
Access to 10 national parks and 275 hiking paths, including routes at Mount Bukhan, was closed, and seven ferry routes off the west coast were suspended. Prime Minister Han Seong-sook ordered authorities to mobilize equipment and personnel to address disruptions from the rains.
