Thaddeus Richards, equipment manager for the U.S. men's national hockey team and the Florida Panthers, was arrested Friday in Coral Springs, Florida, on misdemeanor charges of battery and unauthorized use of 911 services. Police took Richards into custody and held him at Broward Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale as of Friday night.
Team response The Florida Panthers organization stated it had been made aware of the incident and suspended Richards from all team activities and facilities effective immediately pending investigation. Richards has worked as the Panthers' equipment manager since the 2016-17 season and served as head equipment manager for Team USA at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Games.
also worked the 2026 IIHF men's world championship as Team USA equipment manager. Before joining the Panthers, he spent 14 years with another NHL franchise, including three seasons as assistant equipment manager. In a March interview, Richards described his role as long hours but said hockey had been good to his family.
