The Republican-led House Committee on Education and Workforce opened an investigation into whether American Federation of Teachers dues financed a book by the union president. Lawmakers requested documents on expenditures, royalties, and related agreements by July 21.
New York PostThe probe follows a report that union resources covered consultants, legal services, publication expenses, and other costs connected to the project. Committee leaders sent a letter Tuesday requesting records of all spending, agreements with outside parties, and distribution of any proceeds.
The committee asked for documents covering drafting, publishing, promotion, and tour activities. It also sought details on revenues, royalties, licensing payments, and payments made to the union and affiliated entities. Additional requests include records on the formation and governance of a Delaware limited liability company that received royalty payments, as well as travel, lodging, and promotional expenses tied to the book.
The union president previously stated that proceeds from the book are shared equally with the union and that the project was undertaken in partnership with the organization. No immediate comment was provided on the new document request.
