U.S. military involvement in hostilities with Iran unless Congress grants explicit authorization. The vote was 215-208.

Four Republicans joined all Democrats in backing the measure. The four were Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Warren Davidson of Ohio. Democrats used a discharge petition to bring the resolution directly to the floor.

The resolution was introduced by Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. The measure is a concurrent resolution and does not carry the force of law or require presidential signature.

Democrats had previously forced several war-powers votes that failed. GOP leadership canceled a similar vote before the Memorial Day recess. The Senate passed a related procedural measure last month.

The Trump administration maintains that the 1973 War Powers Act is unconstitutional. S. forces are no longer conducting sustained strikes. Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified that the military is no longer engaged in sustained operations against Iran.

Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin posted on X after the vote that the American people are tired of presidents spending taxpayer dollars on unnecessary wars.

Massie and three other House Republicans broke from Trump on the Iran war powers vote, according to The New York Times. Four House Republicans helped Democrats pass a war powers resolution on Wednesday to end hostilities with Iran, The Washington Times reported. The House voted to curb Trump’s war powers in Iran after Democrats and several Republicans bucked the president, Fox News reported.
