House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil and Vice Chair Laurel Lee sent a letter Tuesday to the Maryland State Board of Elections asking for details on a mail-in ballot printing error and the safeguards used to verify ballot accuracy. The letter followed the board's disclosure last week that a vendor mistake resulted in an unknown number of residents receiving ballots for the wrong party.

Officials said they would send replacement ballots to more than 500,000 voters who may have been affected.

Administrator of Elections Jared DeMarinis said the state arranged replacement ballots to remove any doubt about accuracy. He stated Friday that the new ballots had begun to be mailed. DeMarinis described mail-in voting as an integral part of the electoral process and said the replacements were intended to prevent any questions about integrity.

The House Administration Committee Republicans asked DeMarinis to respond to their questions by June 9. Additional signers of the letter include Reps. Morgan Griffith, Greg Murphy, Stephanie Bice, Mike Carey, and Mary Miller. President Donald Trump called on the Justice Department to investigate the State Board of Elections and posted on Truth Social that Gov.

Wes Moore is corrupt, asserting without evidence that the error was intentional. The Republican National Committee said it is expanding voter hotlines, legal oversight, and voter education in Maryland in response to the printing error. Moore did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
