Hundreds of Thousands Attend Funeral Procession for Former Iranian Supreme Leader in Tehran

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians attended the funeral procession for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran on July 6, 2026. Iranian state television showed a vehicle carrying the coffins of Khamenei and family members moving through dense crowds along the route. Officials called the gathering the largest public event in the country's modern history.

Tasnim and Press TV reported that millions lined the streets. The procession is scheduled to continue for 10-12 hours. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met with officials from Hamas and Hezbollah during the ceremonies.

Ghalibaf said the recently signed Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding remains difficult but possible to enforce. He stated that Iran has no peace with the United States and will not recognize Israel.

Territorial integrity of regional countries and an end to war against Iran's allies were included in the memorandum text. Iranian army chief Major General Amir Hatami said the nation will continue its pursuit of justice over Khamenei's assassination and that those responsible will not escape accountability.

"Those who committed this crime must know that the nation of Iran and all of us will never cease in our pursuit of and demand for justice," Hatami said.

Separately, medical sources at Nasser Hospital and al-Hilal Hospital reported that an Israeli drone attack on a vehicle along al-Rashid coastal road in southern Gaza killed at least four Palestinians and wounded 16 others in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis governorate.

Lebanon's National News Agency said Israeli forces triggered an explosion overnight in the southern Lebanese town of Hula in the Marjayoun district. OPEC+ members Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman announced they will raise oil output by 188,000 barrels per day starting in August, marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase after earlier production cuts.
