ICC Orders Freeze on Duterte's Seized Cash and Inventory of Items

The International Criminal Court trial chamber ordered the freezing of cash seized from Rodrigo Duterte at the time of his arrest and directed the Registry to produce an inventory of all items taken from him. Defense lawyer Peter Haynes disclosed the orders in a June 26, 2026 filing made public by the court.
Haynes said the chamber granted the prosecution request to freeze the money and required the Registry to list every item obtained from Duterte.
The amount of cash involved has not been publicly disclosed. According to the ICC Registry, the seized cash remains in the custody of the detention center’s chief custody officer. Duterte was arrested in the Philippines in March 2025 and transferred to the ICC facility in The Hague.
The prosecution separately requested access to several seized items, including a set of keys. Haynes stated the defense does not oppose the access request but described the portion concerning the keys as insufficiently substantiated. “The request is, in substance, a fishing expedition,” Haynes said.
Duterte has been in ICC custody for more than a year. Judges confirmed the crimes against humanity charge against him in April 2026. His trial is scheduled to begin on November 30, 2026.
