Indian and Australian officials visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday to announce a new roadmap for sports collaboration between the two countries. The plan includes the Big Bash League season opener between the Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers scheduled for Chennai on December 12.
It also launches a week-long G'day Namaste festival covering sport, culture, and business engagement.
Sports and economic ties Officials said the roadmap will support cooperation in sports science, major event staging, trade, tourism, and investment. One leader stated the document will strengthen the existing partnership between the nations. The same statement noted that Australian rules football participation in India has grown from 150 players a few years ago to 10,000 players across 11 states.
Future plans Officials confirmed Australia will support India's bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. The visit also featured children playing cricket, kabaddi, and Australian rules football on the ground. After the public remarks, the leaders moved to private discussions inside the venue.
