indianexpress.comIndia conducted three consecutive flight tests on June 10 and 11 that intercepted ballistic missile targets, the Ministry of Defense said in a weekend statement. The tests demonstrated multi-layered defense against long-range ballistic missile threats and medium-range anti-ship capability. The interceptors engaged their targets using domestically developed systems, the statement said.
The trials took place at Chandipur in eastern Orissa state.
The Ministry of Defense said the systems address emerging missile threats and place India among nations with ballistic missile defense capability against intercontinental ballistic missiles. India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh posted on X that multi-layered ballistic missile defense capability was successfully demonstrated.
Organization carried out the tests. India has pursued greater domestic defense manufacturing over the last decade. The technologies could support a multi-layered air and missile defense network project announced last August with a 2035 target date. The project aims to defend against ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
