India completed a record Test victory over Afghanistan on day three at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh stadium in New Chandigarh. The hosts declared at 564-8 after centuries from opener KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill, then bowled Afghanistan out for 152 and 112.
Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar took 6-33 on debut in the first innings to finish with seven wickets for the match. Afghanistan resumed day three at 113-5 and lost their remaining five wickets for 39 runs, with Rahmat Shah making 60.
Afghanistan followed on and reached 74-1 before losing nine wickets for 38 runs. Off-spinner Washington Sundar took 4-36 and left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets in consecutive balls to end the innings at 112. "A complete win, ticked all the boxes so very happy," Gill said after scoring his 11th Test century.
The margin surpassed India's previous record victory, an innings and 272-run win against West Indies in Rajkot in 2018.
