Senior IOC officials said after meetings in Los Angeles that LA28 has raised more revenue and assembled a larger volunteer pool than any previous organizing committee at the same stage.
ForbesSenior leaders of the International Olympic Committee said June 4 that the Los Angeles organizing committee for the 2028 Games is further ahead than any previous Olympic organizing committee at the same point in the planning cycle. The statements came at a press conference at the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles after the IOC Coordination Commission’s annual three-day meeting with LA28, held June 2-4.
IOC Vice President and Coordination Commission Chair Nicole Hoevertsz said the session was the best Coordination Commission Meeting she had attended.
She has taken part in seven official coordination meetings in Los Angeles. "I can with every confidence say that this was the best Coordination Commission Meeting ever," Hoevertsz said. She added that the LA28 team is ready and that the Games are on track in the hands of a qualified and capable group.
"The team is ready. The Games are on track, and the Games are in the safe hands of a very qualified and very capable team," Hoevertsz said. Hoevertsz described the LA28 workforce as young, dynamic, passionate, knowledgeable, and trained people who know what they are doing.
IOC Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi said the level of preparation two years before the Games has no precedent. "Nothing like it before at this level two years out where we are today," Dubi said. Dubi noted that LA28 organizers have already raised more revenue than previous organizing committees achieved at comparable stages and have engaged what could become the largest volunteer pool in Olympic history.
The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are expected to draw 15,000 athletes and will be the largest sporting event ever staged in the United States. Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984. The LA28 Olympic cauldron was lit at the Memorial Coliseum on January 13, 2026, ahead of the launch of ticket registration.
The IOC and LA28 have shifted from plenary-style meetings to seven specialized working groups covering transportation, security, venue operations, technology, sustainability, athlete services, and fan experience. The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for July 2028.
LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover and Chairman Casey Wasserman attended the June 4 press conference alongside Hoevertsz and Dubi.
