Iowa GOP Senate Candidate Hinson: Iran Cannot Have Nuclear Weapon, Families of Fallen Soldiers Say 'Finish the Job'
Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson told a voter at a May 28 campaign stop that she hopes the conflict ends within weeks. She cited four Iowa military funerals since December and said families want the job finished.

"I do hope we can get this done by the next couple of weeks," Hinson said in the recording. "If it drags on beyond that, it's a political liability for us too. " She added that she had attended four funerals since December.
It's awful," she said. Hinson said she was deferring to President Trump and his foreign policy team on negotiations. "Obviously I was deferring to the President on the negotiations, because he has the team doing it," she said.
U.S. and Iran entered a ceasefire in April, though occasional clashes have continued. Global oil markets remain affected by reduced shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Hinson stated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is her bottom line.
"Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. She also said she had not heard of plans for a military draft. "We don't need one. I hope we don't need one," she said.
The White House said early in the war that a military draft was not planned. Hinson reported that families of the fallen Iowa soldiers told her the United States needs to finish the job. "Those families all said we need to finish the job," she said.
Joni Ernst, who is not seeking re-election.
