Iran and Belgium played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Iranian team left a handwritten note in the locker room after the match. The note stated that the team came to Los Angeles with pride, competed with honour, and left with dignity.
Iran had previously drawn 2-2 with New Zealand at the same venue. The team now has two points from its first two Group G matches. Iran relocated its training base from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, and operates under U.S.
Visa rules that permit entry only on match day with same-day departure required. Multiple members of the backroom staff were denied entry visas for the United States. Head coach Amir Ghalenoei said Iran are the most oppressed team at the tournament following the New Zealand draw.
Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House's World Cup taskforce, stated there are discussions going on about the timings for Iran's travel to and from the game against Egypt. Iran will face Egypt in its final Group G match in Seattle on 27 June at 04:00 BST. The United States, Canada, and Mexico are co-hosting the tournament.
Iran and the United States are in negotiations to end their war. The Football Federation of Iran called on FIFA to uphold principles of neutrality, fairness, and established regulations after its ticket allocation was revoked.
