Shortly afterward the team posted a tribute to Mexico on its official Instagram account. The post showed clasped hands wearing a Mexico sweatband and an Iran sweatband in a stadium with fireworks.
Team Melli wrote in Spanish: "Thank you for opening your doors to us. " Iran had moved its base camp from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, Mexico, at the last minute because of U.S. government restrictions.
